Associations partner for EU representation

At the end of 2013, Toby Maclaurin, President of MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association and Robert Marx, President of European Boating Industry, announced the conclusion of a partnership between their respective associations.

Toby Maclaurin, President of MYBA, said, “This partnership will enable MYBA to be effectively represented at EU level through European Boating Industry and voice the views and concerns of the superyacht professionals in Europe on a number of EU issues.”

Robert Marx, President of European Boating Industry, added, “We are delighted to start working with MYBA and lend them our support and expertise on EU affairs. The superyacht charter business represents a significant part of the European nautical tourism and it is important that EU rules contribute to facilitating business throughout Europe and especially in the Mediterranean Sea where it concentrates.”

European Boating Industry and MYBA will be working together on a number of EU dossiers, such as the EU internal market, taxation, and some environmental, technical & safety matters.

Mirna Cieniewicz Secretary General of EBI, speaking at METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show) in Amsterdam recently, said that her organisation had been comprehensively involved in the consultation process for updating of the EU Recreational Craft Directive (RCD.)  They are currently preparing a full information package which will be available on the organisation’s website in spring 2014. Since 2008 European Boating Industry with the support of its national member federations has worked closely with the EU institutions in the preparation of the new directive’s text.

For the first time boat builders can place products on the EU market that are compliant with both the old and new directives before 18 January 2017.

The new EU directive on recreational craft is available in all EU languages and can be found on the EU Official Journal via the following short link: http://goo.gl/cGRjE9
