Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi is one of the newest and best-equipped in the Middle East, where boating is growing rapidly as a participation sport. In addition, the marina has a unique claim to fame – it’s the focal point of the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Watching the race from a superyacht in the marina is surely the ultimate way to watch any Grand Prix motor race.
The marina is located on Yas Island, which has excellent facilities for shopping and eating out, plus activities including a golf course and driver / passenger experiences on the Formula One circuit. It benefits from excellent travel links – it is close to the centre of Abu Dhabi, only five minutes from Abu Dhabi international airport, and a 90 minute drive from Dubai international airport.
The surrounding area has some 400km of coastline that’s home to more than 200 natural islands. It offers a mix of ultra-modern luxury venues, historic bustling ports and towns, plus pristine beaches and desert tranquility. There’s plenty of sea life, including coral reefs, tropical fish and turtles. Dolphins are also a common sight and the area has the world’s second largest population of the endangered manatee-like dugong.
Yas Marina has 143 permanent berths for yachts from 8 metres to 90 metres length, plus additional provision for visiting superyachts of up to 150m. Facilities available at all berths include shore power and water, pump out, Wi-Fi, berthing assistance, and a club car service. Technical services, including boat maintenance and spare parts are arranged through reliable third parties.
The area’s climate is ideal for sailing for nine months of the year, from September to June, with warm winds and near continuous sunshine, but without the scorching heat of summer. A cruising club located at the marina helps to ensure a sociable atmosphere for evening events and longer cruises in company.
