Gibraltar Jubilee Flotilla – Be Part of History

Gibraltar is planning its own version of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on 4 June, when around 100 boats will form a flotilla to mark the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Departing from Ocean Village, the flotilla will make its way from the western side of the territory’s runway to the eastern, before reversing the journey. The flotilla will be led by vessels from all the Services, as well as the Gibraltar Port Authority and Police launches – followed by local sailing yachts and visiting vessels. All vessels are encouraged to fly their flags, sound their horns and ring their bells on the flotilla.

The event will start at noon on Monday 4th June and it is expected that the cruise round the Rock will take about 3 hours. Participating crews are also invited to an after-sail drinks party to be held in Ocean Village.

Unlike the London event the Gibraltar Flotilla is open to any boat in the area that wants to come down and support the fleet. Registration is quick and easy and particpation is free.

Event organiser Ros Astengo said: “Apart from the spectacle at sea, with all manner of vessels dressed in streamers and Union Jacks, we’re also encouraging as much onshore support as possible with horn-tooting and flag-waving most welcome.

“The bars and restaurants within Ocean Village Marina will be laying on special meals and cocktails and there’ll be a live band and DJ in the evening. Then, as the sun dips beneath the horizon, the beacon on top of the Rock will be lit up – a magical end to a special day.”

“In fact, there’s a whole week of entertainment in Gibraltar for the Jubilee and we’re already getting requests for berths from around the world over this period so we’re advising people that if they want a berth in Gibraltar

It’s free to take part in the flotilla, and you can register to take part here. You can also keep up to date with developments on the event’s Facebook page.
